Wolfsberger AC has signed Giacomo Vrioni, the former Bundesliga top scorer, on a free transfer from Italian Serie B side FC Cesena, until 2028. The 27-year-old Albanian was only active at Cesena since February and played 15 times in the second Italian league, but remained goalless. Before his engagement in the Serie B, the WAC newcomer was active in the MLS at New England and Montreal. With the transfer, Vrioni returns to the Bundesliga. In the 2021/22 season, he played as a loan player from Juventus Turin for WSG Tirol. His former coach was, like now at WAC, Thomas Silberberger. During his first season in Austria, the striker scored 21 goals in 30 games. In the 2021/22 Bundesliga season, he, together with Karim Adeyemi, became top scorer with 19 goals.
